Rose (Rosevalda) and Thorn (Thornboldt) Durst are the children of Gustav and Elizabeth Durst, a wealthy merchant family that lived outside of village-of-barovia. The entire family along with their nurse maid and servants seem to have perish in a series of gruesome events some time ago.

Rose Durst

The eldest of the Durst children is prideful and protective of her younger brother Thorn. She is old enough to know that something was going on with her family but unable to truly see what was going on. She spent most of her time trying to keep Thorn occupied and happy since her parents often ignored the both of them. They both often awoke to screams and cries from a strange monster that lived in their basement.

One night she and her brother were sent to their room in the attic of the manor and their mother locked them in. They were content to play for several hours however, the following morning their door remained locked. Despite their cries the house remained otherwise silent. Rose comforted her brother for several days before succumbing to exhaustion and starvation.

Recently the soul of Rose awoke as strangers entered their home. The strangers were investigating the monster that lived in their basement. The group agreed to take her and Thorn’s bodies outside to finally be laid to rest. However, once buried Rose’s soul did not pass on, instead she lingered. Alone and confused she agreed to accompany Sister Margaret Lillywhite and her companions on their adventure.

Thorn Durst

The middle child of the Durst children is a young, scared, and confused boy. Unlike Rose, Thorn has only known his parents to be distant, and cold. He has always looked to her older sister for comfort and guidance. When the monster in the basement awoke him Rose always comforted him, despite his cries for his parents.

One night, after a particularly loud and disturbing monster encounter their parents never returned to unlock their door. Thorn grew hungry and eventually died of starvation in his older sisters arms.

A group of adventurers awoke Thorns soul who was curious and scared of the new arrivals. Rose asked for her and Thorn to be buried outside so that they may finally rest. However, after being buried Rose’s soul lingered and Thorn’s disappeared.
